چکیده

In this short communication we focus on the Contention Window mechanism of 802.11e EDCA. We first show that existing analyses for this mechanism rely on a system of equations that does not always have a unique solution. Next, we present an alternative analysis for which we prove mathematically the existence of a unique solution. Finally, we validate the accuracy of our analysis by means of simulation results.

Revisiting the Markov Chain Model of IEEE 802.11E EDCA and Introducing the Virtual Collision Phenomenon

IEEE 802.11e specifies the Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) for distributed access with traffic differentiation to a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). Traffic differentiation led to introducing several traffic queues within each station, thus introducing virtual collision. In this paper, we present a pattern based Markov chain model of EDCA including the virtual collision phenomenon...

Analytic Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA

This paper investigates the analytic performance of IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) under saturated traffic load. Compared with the existing analytical models of EDCA, we obtain transmission probability τi by applying the renewal theory and provide simple but accurate delay model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA by considering the possibility that a station’s backoff procedure may ...

Throughput Analysis Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA with Multiple Access Categories

IEEE 802.11e standard has been specified to support differentiated quality of service (QoS), one of the critical issues on the conventional IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs). Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the fundamental and mandatory contention-based channel access method of IEEE 802.11e, and delivers traffic based on differentiated Access Categories (ACs). A gen...

On the Effectiveness of IEEE 802.11e QoS Support in Wireless LAN: A Performance Analysis

The IEEE 802.11e draft is a proposal defining the mechanisms for wireless LANs aiming to provide QoS support to time-sensitive applications, such as, voice and video communications. The 802.11e group is currently working hardly, but the ratification of the standard has a long way to go. In this paper we carry out a performance analysis on the effectiveness of the IEEE 802.11e (EDCA) upcoming st...

A Novel Performance Evaluation Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA

IEEE 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the most popular standard used in WLAN to support QoS for various real-time service flows. Based on DCF, EDCA introduces some new QoS parameters, which are defined by IEEE 802.11e standard. But how to adjust these parameters is still worth investigating. In the paper, we present a novel saturated throughput analysis of the IEEE 802.11e ...
